Coffee with Kimmy: Kiss an Angel
Good morning my fellow earthlings.
Let's have coffee and I'll tell you everything about this recent book I've read and how I decided that it is one of the greatest books I've read in my whole damn life.
Kiss an Angel: A Review
If I remember it correctly, this will be my third or fourth time to review a book. As I've told you before, I am a hard-core book lover. However, I haven't had much time to read before, let alone to blog about those I've read. My favorite genre? Romance novels with hot capable alpha men as heroes and sweet loving women as heroins.
During my Bar Review, I totally cut ties with the books and novels I had. I know, I know, I could have had time to read a book or two but honey...I'm smart enough to know that once I start reading, I'll never stop. So, I decided to temporarily put an end to the one thing that's giving me pure, unadulterated happiness. And so the waiting game began. I'm telling you...it was so hard. Whenever I would see books or read about book reviews, I would get pissy and disappointed. I would get mad about the circumstances I was in. Despite this, I did not go back to my conviction to not read novels until I finish taking the Bar. I would always think that after that, I would take two weeks off to do nothing but read. And I held on to that..for many excruciating months.
Then, just like that, what I thought would never be done...got done. The first night of my long sought after freedom, I did not party. I did not drink alcohol. I stayed so late reading even though I was so tired. It was like I was a starved woman. I was on a mission to read as many books as I can.
And so the reading spree began.... I read so many books. I read everything on my reading list. I read more books than what's on my reading list. And baby, it was a very long list. Unfortunately, after reading quite a number of books, I was satisfied only be a book or two. But I did not stop. I continued reading and reading. My routine was: eat, read, pray and sleep.
Then, I chanced upon this book entitled 'Kiss An Angel' by Susan Elizabeth Phillips...and I. WAS. NEVER. THE. SAME. AGAIN. Initially, I was intrigued by the book plot. Here's what I've read in Goodreads.com which caught my attention:
KISS AN ANGEL
Wedding Day
Pretty, flighty Daisy Devreaux can either go to jail or marry the mystery man her father has chosen for her. Arranged marriages don't happen in the modern world, so how did the irrepressible Daisy find herself in this fix?
Alex Markov, as humorless as he is deadly handsome, has no intention of playing the loving bridegroom to a spoiled little feather-head with champagne tastes. He drags Daisy from her uptown life to a broken down traveling circus and sets out to tame her to his ways.
But this man without a soul has met his match in a woman who's nothing but heart. Before long, passion will send them flying sky high without a safety net... risking it all in search of a love that will last forever. (less)
I honestly thought that it was just the typical type of book about an alpha man and a sophisticated rich girl who were forced into marriage and somehow fell in love with each other over the course of their predicament. I did not know I was in for one of the biggest surprises of my book nerd life for the year 2017. My gosh. I was wrong. I was so damn wrong. The story is the farthest from typical. Okay, I'm kinda weighing my words here because I don't want to give any spoilers but let me share non-spoiler bits and pieces of my thoughts about this book. The story has so many layers in it. It was a different experience on its own. It's a tale of friendship, familial bond, love, conquering fears, embracing the beauty of life even in its ugliest form, changes, and a whole lot more. I was glued to the pages from start to finish with a stupid silly grin on my face the whole time. And the ending of the story? Oh my. It blew me away. It was like a grand finale. After reading the book, I felt so satisfied and happy I don't even know how to explain it. Ugh. Thank you Susan Elizabeth Phillips for this book.
Here's some of my most favorite quotations:
“I don't love you anymore", she whispered. "I don't love you at all." His throat closed. "It's all right, sweetheart. I love you enough for both of us.”
“Pride had kept her running when love had betrayed her.”
“She (Daisy) dug her nails into her palms and told herself she had no choice. "I, Theodosia..." She gulped for air. "...take thee Alexander..." She gulped again. "...to be my awful wedded husband...”
“Well alright then," His eyes glittered. "I get my kicks whipping woman I have sex with and you're next on my list. Now I'm going to take a shower.”
“I love you, Daisy. I love you so much I hurt.”
Okay. That's it for now folks. Happy new year!!!!
